The foundation of the Primary School program of instruction is the Primary Years Programme (PYP). This program is based upon the belief that all students are inquisitive and that children learn best by inquiry. The PYP program is a well recognized, international program is set by the IB. The Academy has developed its own Units of Inquiry and students meet up to six units of inquiry every school year. Math, Science, and IT are offered as separate subjects.
Pre school 3-4
Fully trained teachers supervise these classes, supported by a full-time classroom assistant. The classes are well equipped and the size of the class is small, with each child receiving individual attention. The happy, relaxed, and informal atmosphere encourages children to feel secure in a learning environment. Learning through play is regarded as a key to our early childhood education program and the teachers work hard to provide programs for the differing levels and rates of development to ensure success for all. The children have the opportunity for specialist lessons in IT, music, Arabic, and physical education as part of the weekly schedule.
Kindergarten - Grade 1
Students are exposed to a curriculum that incorporates reading, writing, mathematics, science, music, technology, and humanities. Specialist teachers teach students Arabic and Islamic studies, as well as Arabic as a Second Language. Specialists also teach Music, PE, and IT. The experienced classroom teachers are supported by a full-time classroom assistant. The atmosphere of the school is fun and friendly, and children are encouraged to take pride in their achievements. Priority is given to establishing core skills needed for their future learning and the wide variety of activities offered serve a valuable purpose in broadening the students' experiences. The PYP units of inquiry are an important part of each class's weekly schedules and for the children's benefit a specially set up PYP room is available.
Grades 2-5
All students are exposed to a curriculum that incorporates English, language arts, mathematics, science, Arabic, Islamic studies (optional for non-Muslims), social studies, music, IT, arts, and physical education. In all years, the Academy provides well resourced classrooms with small class student numbers. Our teachers are well equipped to provide quality classroom instruction and learning opportunities.
Qatar Academy's Program of Studies is designed to prepare students for university entrance and culminates by the award of Qatar Academy High School Diploma. The sequence of courses sets an academically rigorous and challenging program that is varied enough to meet the needs of each Qatar Academy student.
Grades 6-10 follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), an IB program. The MYP allows for a broad and balanced education that includes:
Grades 9-10 students have some choice over the subjects they study. This choice is made within the framework of the IB Middle Years Programme.
Grades 11-12 comprise the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The Diploma Programme is recognized internationally as a qualification for university entrance and offers a broad and balanced curriculum comprising six academic areas:
Another key component is CAS (Community Action Service) where students take part in artistic endeavors (creativity); sports, expeditions, local or international projects (action), and community or social service projects (service).
Both the Middle Years and the Diploma Programmes foster critical thinking and encourage students to draw connections between areas of knowledge and to use problem-solving techniques and concepts from many disciplines. Our course of studies not only prepares students for success at university but instills in each student an understanding of their own culture and an awareness of other cultures, values, and ways of life.
