Student Services

Qatar Academy Student Services support students directly in their academic life to foster, promote, and increase interpersonal competencies and scholastic achievement. Qatar Academy perceives each student as a unique individual and provides services in the areas of learning support, highly capable identification, social and emotional development, and health.

Student Services provide continuity and support for students in preschool through grade 12. A multi-disciplinary approach is utilized to provide support to students, parents and teachers when students are experiencing mild academic problems, language acquisition delays, or display advanced intellectual abilities. Specialists in the fields of differentiated learning, ESL, counseling, early childhood development, mother tongue, giftedness, educational psychology, and school nursing all work closely to ensure that all students have every opportunity to maximize their learning potential. The differentiation initiative at Qatar Academy aims to encourage teaching that responds to the needs of all learners. By recognizing, expecting, and appreciating students’ learning differences, teachers constantly strive to improve the educational experiences of students in order to facilitate the development of enthusiastic learners.

Academic support comes in all shapes and sizes at Qatar Academy. Each week there is a dedicated time after school for students to participate in the “Homework Café” and get more individual help from specific teachers if desired. In addition, through collaboration with prestigious universities in Doha such as Carnegie Mellon University, college students volunteer to mentor Qatar Academy students during the Homework Café or engage in afterschool programs for highly capable (TAP) students.

Counselors facilitate the PYP and MYP attitudes and social and emotional competencies through classroom teaching and small group or individual skill building activities. Parenting workshops are offered throughout the year and counselors are available to meet with parents concerning their child's academic and emotional development. Upon entering the Diploma Program in grades 11-12, counseling services continue to be an integral part of scholastic success. During these years counselors work closely with each individual student to ensure college readiness and help guide all students through the university application process. Qatar Academy has a 100% college matriculation rate and within the last five years our graduates have entered universities on five continents.
